One of my favourite Naval Ravikant quotes is “you are a story that you tell yourself”. For better or worse, you get what you think about. You could be the hardest working person on the planet but if the story you tell yourself is that you’re average, then you’ll live an average life. This is why the most successful people are often described as “delusional”. The stories they tell themselves are incomprehensible to the average mind. If you want a better life, tell yourself better stories.
Happiness is already there…buried under comparisons, endless wants, and the illusion that life is incomplete.
If you’re not obsessed, you’re just interested. And interested people watch obsessed people change the world.
This is Elon. Elon wanted a new payment method on the Internet, so he created PayPal. Elon wanted to drive an electric car, so he founded Tesla Motors. Elon wanted to go to space cheaper, so he created SpaceX. Elon wanted faster transportation, so he is developing Hyperloop. Elon does not tell everyone how bad the world is. Elon is working on changing the world. Be like Elon.
Be a lion. Lions work fast and decisively, then take a long rest without guilt. They don’t waste energy second guessing themselves. They strike hard when opportunity arises, then retreat to recover. Most people exhaust themselves in constant motion, mistaking being busy for progress. Lions know real results come from focused bursts of action followed by deep rest. When you work like a lion, you protect your energy for when it matters most. Work with intensity, rest with purpose, and you’ll have the stamina to win again and again.
A wonderful life lesson for you. There’s a whole lot of things that aren’t going to work for you. Avoid the crooks, crazies, egomaniacs, people full of resentment, people full of self-pity, and people who feel like victims. Avoid them like the plague.
